Rejoice, Marvel Cinematic Universe fans! Marvel gives a thumbs up to to give Scarlett Johansson’s her own Black Widow movie. Variety recently reported that the studio hired screenwriter Jac Schaeffer to write a script for this Black Widow film.

Honestly, the possibility of watching a Black Widow movie excites me, and I’m glad that Marvel is actually finally moving forward with the movie!

Similarly, Jennifer Lawrence also stars in a Russian assassin film that is similar to Black Widow. Red Sparrow, a story about Prima ballerina Dominika Egorova who despite a career ending injury rose to become the most dangerous Sparrow, a secret intelligence service agent. Fans are claiming that there are a lot of similarities between Red Sparrow and Black Widow’s past in the trailer that was recently released.

Scarlett Johansson played Natasha Romanov A.K.A. Black Widow during the last six films in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The actress appears again in Avengers: Infinity War.

Still in the early stages of development, Marvel’s move to create a Black Widow movie is considered to be  a significant one. Scarlett Johansson has played Black Widow since 2010, when she appeared in Iron Man 2. However, Johansson’s character in The Avengers and subsequent movies, was considered to be more of supporting roles, as the male heroes dominate through Marvel Cinematic Universe’s standalone movies. That trend appeared to be have changed in 2014, when Marvel announced that there would be a Captain Marvel movie.

Jac Schaeffer previously wrote the Disney short “Olaf’s Frozen Adventure,” as well as the upcoming Nasty Women, a female-led remake of the Steve Martin and Michael Caine comedy Dirty Rotten Scoundrels. Marvel President Kevin Feige met with several candidates before tapping Schaeffer, and Marvel execs met with Scarlett Johansson to discuss what they wanted from a “Black Widow” writer.
